Anatomy and Physiology is a vast subject, and can be overwhelming. In this course we hone in on the aspects most relevant to yoga practice so the content is manageable and engaging despite its breadth.
We’ll study what it means to work with optimal alignment, functional engagement, how to create a lifelong practice that reduces wear and tear and supports vitality. We’ll cover the basics of tissue types (bones, muscles, joints, fascia) and how to care for each, how communities of muscle apply to yoga, mobility vs. flexibility, and we’ll translate all of this to some of Yoga’s most practiced asanas (postures).

Modern day Yoga is the confluence of many different - and often conflicting - traditions and philosophies. How do we understand this melting pot of ideas, where even dates, origins, key texts and sources can vary? Different traditions and teacher will respond to fundamental questions in very different ways, to the extent that it can be very confusing to even answer "what is Yoga?" "where did it come from?" "why do we practice?"
This workshop is for those seeking more clarity on how these threads of yoga philosophy tie together, and the cultural and historical context that gave rise to the various philosophies. We cover traditional texts through the ages, a range of approaches and ideologies, and make sense of the complexity that underlies contemporary Yoga practice.
