We are honored to share our practice of Buddhist studies and Buddhist meditation through YOTV. Learn about our background of study here.
Our practice is rooted in Vipassana, Insight meditation, though we broadly appreciate and learn from many traditons, following in the spirit of One Dharma as established by Joseph Goldstein. No need to fight about the path we’re taking up the mountain, as long as all paths are leading us towards more freedom, away from harm and hurt.
Vipassana is the practice of the Theravada school of Buddhism. While Theravada is the original school of Buddhism, we love it because of the pure and straightforward way the teachings touch our hearts and inform our lives. It is a very rubber-meets-the-road support system for navigating our chaotic, often stressful world.
There are plenty of apps and books on mindfulness these days, and we’re grateful for that. But the Three Jewels of Buddhism are the Buddha (that you, you can open up to a way of being that is less entangled in life, as Buddha did), the Dharma (these brilliant teachings that are as evocative an relevant to the human condition today as they were hundreds of years ago), and the Sangha (the community of support we need to carry on, and be reminded of our interdependence).
Studying in real life, with real teachers, allows you to root in community, ask questions, dive deeper, let the teachings speak to your unique experience.
